The New South Wales government in Australia has given the thumbs up to the construction of an up to 350-MW solar park with a battery storage component of 300MW/600MWh.
The development consent for the Blind Creek solar farm project was issued on Friday, official documents show. The scheme was originated by local farmers and is being developed by a joint venture of Octopus Australia and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), together with the founders.
To be installed near the town of Bungendore in the Queanbeyan region of New South Wales, the complex will incorporate solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and regenerative agriculture. Once in operation, the solar park will be capable of producing electricity for around 135,000 homes and will offset over 740,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
The overall investment required for the project is estimated at AUD 554 million (USD 368.6m/EUR 335.8m).
Blind Creek Solar Farm has been given the status of a state significant development (SSD) project and comes with a Community Benefit Sharing Scheme (CBSS) programme.
