The transmission business of UK energy group SSE Plc (LON:SSE) has selected a number of preferred bidders to deliver key parts of all the onshore transmission infrastructure under its Pathway to 2030 programme.
Balfour Beatty, Siemens Energy BAM, J. Murphy & Sons, Wood Power Solutions, Omexom Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Burns & McDonnell, Morrison Energy Services, Linxon, IQA and NKT will take part in the provision of overhead lines, underground cables and substations for each of the Pathway to 2030 projects.
SSEN Transmission will seek to complete contract negotiations in the coming weeks and months.
The Pathway to 2030 sets out the transmission infrastructure needed to enable the anticipated increase in renewables across Great Britain. For the north of Scotland, this includes onshore reinforcements and subsea links, such as two 2-GW subsea links from Peterhead to England. SSEN Transmission is investing GBP 10 billion (USD 12.7bn/EUR 11.6bn) in the effort.
“Our Pathway to 2030 network redevelopment programme will play a huge role in delivering Scotland and the UK’s net zero targets and the selection of this group of preferred bidders for crucial elements of that redevelopment work is a massive step forward in delivering that,” commented SSEN Transmission managing director Rob McDonald.
