Romania releases information to bidders ahead of CfD tender

The Romanian energy ministry on Monday published an information note to bidders ahead of the country’s upcoming contracts for difference (CfD) tender for renewable energy projects.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced on Friday that Romania is poised to launch its first auction under a contract-for-difference (CfD) support scheme.

The first CfD round targets 1 GW of onshore wind capacity and 1 GW of solar capacity.

According to the information note, the Auction Initiation Order will be released in the coming weeks. Under the timeline provided for the 2023 CfD auction, the deadline for submitting proposals will be in the week of November 13, 2023 and awarded bidders will be notified in the week of December 18, 2023.

A second tender round is planned for 2025 that will target 1.5 GW of wind and solar each.

The information note was published alongside a draft government decision on the approval of the general legal framework for the implementation of the CfD support mechanism.
